Future Chefs Take Center Stage at the Student and Celebrity Chef Showdown!
Young chefs stand before judges and taste testers seated at a table.

The heat was on, the knives were sharp, and the flavors were bold at the Student and Celebrity Chef Showdown—a delicious kickoff to LAUSD’s ongoing commitment to nutrition education, farm-to-table learning, and career technical education (CTE) pathways in the culinary arts!

This exciting event marked a new chapter for Café LA, where student voices and creativity are transforming school menus. The young chefs are crafting more than just meals—they’re cooking up futures, inspiration, and innovation.

Congratulations to the incredibly talented culinary teams from Banning, Huntington Park, San Fernando, Sotomayor, and Polytechnic High Schools for bringing their A-game to the kitchen. Their dishes were not only technically impressive but full of heart, culture, and creativity.

A special shoutout to Polytechnic High School, whose award-winning dish—a vibrant Korean-inspired Bibimbap paired with a refreshing Açaí Bowl—blew the judges away with bold flavors, expert technique, and artistic presentation. The best part? Their dish will be featured on next year’s school menu!

Every plate at the Showdown told a story, and every student reminded us of the power of food to connect, inspire, and pave the way for future careers. From culinary passion to school pride, this event was a celebration of skill, dedication, and the bright future of student-driven cuisine.
