Empowering Artistic Futures: Ryman Arts and the Season of Renewal

Based in Los Angeles and serving the greater Southern California area, Ryman Arts stands as a beacon of artistic expression and a testament to the transformative potential of arts education. Ryman Arts transforms lives by creating access and opportunity for a diverse community of young artists through rigorous education in fundamental art skills and mentoring. Their mission is to ignite creativity, help empower young artists, and enrich the SoCal community by fostering a vibrant hub for artistic exploration. Each year, Ryman Arts provides free, high-quality arts education and mentoring to a diverse community of 550+ young artists ages 14-18, from 170+ zip codes of 5 counties including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura.

Ryman Arts offers programming that aims to nurture artistic growth in foundational drawing and painting. Students participate in three sequential courses—Foundation Drawing, Intermediate Drawing and Painting, and Advanced Painting—organized into three 12-session semesters. Taught by highly qualified teaching artists, each class is 3 1⁄2 hours long and includes fine arts instruction, college and career programming, and mentoring. Ryman Arts provides this high-quality arts education at no cost to the student whatsoever! Each accepted student receives a full scholarship that includes museum field trips, model drawing sessions, guest artist visits, public transportation reimbursement, and a professional “Art Bin”, stocked with high-quality supplies like pencils, charcoal, brushes, and paint. This Bin empowers students to create, develop skills, and envision themselves as artists. For many, it’s their first set of personal art supplies—standing as an affirmation of their talents and the possibility of a future in the arts.

The essence of Ryman Arts extends far beyond the walls of its classrooms and is exemplified through the lives of its students, many of whom go on to receive accolades for their work, lead promising careers in the creative economy, and pour into the next generation of young artists. As we reflect on Ryman Arts’ deeply impactful legacy, we also look towards the future- one where Ryman Arts continues to empower the artists of tomorrow. Such a future requires dedication, hope, and true community support.

In the spirit of community, we invite you to join Ryman Arts in their Season of Renewal, where real stories of transformation and personal development are being shared by those whose lives have been positively impacted by this work. Through the holidays and into the year’s end, Ryman Arts’ Season of Renewal aims to raise $50,000 which will aid in their continued efforts to provide high-quality arts education, increased student outreach, expansion of college and career programming, creating lasting connections and further building their family of alumni.

Ryman Arts student, Athena C. (Class of 2025), says that she “couldn’t be more grateful for the people that donate to Ryman [Arts]. If it wasn’t for them, a lot of kids wouldn’t be in the program, and a lot of them wouldn’t even pursue the arts because they don’t know where to begin.” Help ensure that artists like Athena continue to grow through the power of access, mentorship, and education. You can deepen Ryman Arts’ impact by contributing a gift of any size to the Season of Renewal here. Your support helps young artists explore their unique creative potential and makes it possible through the much-needed community care of arts education. Please join the Season of Renewal via generous donation and follow along with the stories of Ryman Arts youth on their social media (@rymanarts). Let’s continue to transform lives, one brushstroke at a time.
